January 24, 2014: Trinidad and Tobago is designated as the guest ‘Country of Honour’ at Cubadisco Music Festival 2014. This statement was made by His Excellency Guillermo Vázquez Moreno, newly appointed Ambassador of Cuba to Trinidad and Tobago during courtesy call on the Honourable Winston Dookeran, Minister of Foreign Affairs recently at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Cubadisco is an annual event which is dedicated to a country and musical genre and also pays tribute to artists and personalities with distinguished creative work within Cuban Music. This year the festival will be held in Havana, Cuba from 17th to 25th May, 2014.
Discussions also focused on Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to strengthening relations with Cuba. Ambassador Moreno highlighted the significance Cuba places on its relationship with Latin America and the Caribbean, and spoke of the need for increased cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba in the areas of medicine, sport, trade, tourism, air transportation and possible collaboration in the oil industry.
Talks further centered on the upcoming Second Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) to be held in Havana, Cuba from 28th to 29th January, 2014 and the Fifth CARICOM-Cuba Summit to be held in Cuba on 8th December, 2014. Minister Dookeran assured His Excellency of Trinidad and Tobago’s participation at both Summits, and expressed his enthusiasm in contributing to the discussions at these meetings.
Both Minister Dookeran and His Excellency underscored their dedication to forging stronger bilateral ties before ending the meeting.
