I am Beautiful: When I Look at Me, I See…is beautifully written by author, Simone Da Costa, has been having tremendous success and is selling out in bookstores and on Amazon.
This nonfiction book intends to empower young Black girls through self acceptance. The success of this book supports the thought process of Simone as it relates to young Black girls and the values that they place on themselves.
This is an inspirational book created for middle school aged Black girls, and aims to equip and liberate them to believe that they are beautiful, despite society’s notion of what “beauty” is.
“In an era where the popular idealistic images of beauty are based on the western world’s realism of beauty, it illustrates that beauty begins with knowing who you are, believing it, and accepting yourself as you are,” Simone Da Costa.
“This is the one of the most remarkable picture books that I have ever read. The book, “I Am Beautiful,” by Simone Da Costa, features a confident and influential leading character named Naomi, who loves herself from head to toe. Naomi exemplifies what it means to have the high self esteem and confidence that all young girls at her age should have. Naomi makes it her mission to identify and appreciate every part of her body that makes her the unique individual that she is. And concluding this riveting book is a bunch of reflexive reading comprehension questions to refresh and further inspire the mind of the reader. This book needs to be on the bookshelf of every young girl worldwide. And I only wish that I could have had a book as influential as this when I was younger, if so I would have been way more confident,” Roshawnah Forde.
