Dr. Shakel Henson graduated from St. George’s University in 2008 completing a Bachelors of Science in Medical Sciences, a Masters in Public Health and a Doctor of Medicine degree. Thereafter she did a rotational internship at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in St. Vincent prior to becoming a registered physician. During her two-year internship, Dr. Henson served as Vice-President of the Junior Doctors Association. She actively participated in research, community teaching, CME presentations and poster presentations and was the first intern to present at the annual neonatal morbidity and mortality conference held in SVG. She was awarded best intern in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2010.
Later that year, Dr. Henson joined the faculty at Trinity School of Medicine as a clinical tutor. Dr. Henson lectures Genetics in the Pre-Medical program and does tutorial sessions in Anatomy and Genetics in the Medical program. Additionally, she is the course coordinator of Histology and coordinator of student visits to the Stubbs Polyclinic.
