Meagan Good is elated to be the lead actress in Minority Report, she joins a growing list of Black women in lead roles on TV shows.
The Fox TV series looks at a future world where crimes can be stopped before they are committed. It’s done through a trio with special powers.
Meagan Monique Good is a 34 year old American actress who began her career at the age of four. She has appeared in numerous commercials, television shows, feature films, and music videos.
Meagan was born in Panorama City, Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Tyra Wardlow-Doyle, managed her career into her teens. Her maternal grandmother is Jewish and African, and she also traces parts of her father’s ancestry to the Caribbean island of Barbados. She was raised in Santa Clarita, California along with her three siblings.
Meagan and her husband, DeVon live in Los Angeles, California. She is a Christian and considers herself a very spiritual person and has stated in numerous interviews that she would not play roles that she feels might “disappoint God”. She explained in an interview that Jesus tops her hero list and the last book she read was the Bible.
In 2011, Meagan was featured in the highly successful film version of, Think Like a Man. She played Joanna Locasto, the lead character on the NBC drama series Deception. She also starred in the 2013 comedy Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues starring Will Ferrell. Meagan has also earned a reputation as a scream queen with her involvement in the horror genre with films such as Venom (2005), One Missed Call (2008), Saw V (2008), and The Unborn (2009).
In 2011, Meagan Good began dating DeVon Franklin, an executive for Columbia Pictures and Seventh-day Adventist preacher. They became engaged in early April 2012, and were married on June 16, 2012.
DeVon Franklin is a successful American author, film producer, preacher and motivational speaker. He serves as President/CEO of Franklin Entertainment, a new first-look production company with Sony Pictures Entertainment. He was formerly the Senior Vice President of Production at Columbia Pictures and a studio executive at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
The Seventh-Day Adventist church
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination distinguished by its observance of Saturday, the seventh day of the week in Christian and Jewish calendars, as the Sabbath, and by its emphasis on the imminent Second Coming (advent) of Jesus Christ.
Much of the theology of the Seventh-day Adventist Church corresponds to common Evangelical Protestant Christian teachings, such as the Trinity and the infallibility of Scripture. Distinctive teachings include the unconscious state of the dead and the doctrine of an investigative judgment. The church is also known for its emphasis on diet and health, its “holistic” understanding of the person, its promotion of religious liberty, and its conservative principles and lifestyle.
Backlash to the Blue Dress
Meagan Good had to deal with harsh criticisms after wearing her “Blue Dress” at the 2013 BET Awards.
Her responses were respectful and candid. Here are some of her quoted responses shown below:
- That’s the thing Girl- is that I don’t feel convicted about this at all. My spirit is saddened that our people only know one way to think and process things.
I’m not any less holy because the dress I wore -I may not be who people think I should be -but I’m morphing into exactly who God wants me to be.. My excuse is never “I’m going to do me” and I don’t feel that I need to make an excuse or defend what I wore. I know I have a responsibility -and I’m working daily to fulfill the full potential of all God has created me to be.
- A dialogue was started about my character, integrity, my walk with God and my Husband -simply based on a dress that I wore.., Of course I’m going to have a reaction to people saying negative things… It’s just sad.. Makes me sad not regretful. My heart and spirit is always open to whatever my Father would want to share with me… And my spirit tells me to be exactly who I authentically am -because that’s what’s going to reach who I was authentically designed to touch.
- And it just makes me sad that us as Christians can’t see beyond our initial reaction and don’t seek God before they attack other brothers and sisters …and never think for one moment that: God knows what he’s doing and he uses everything for his glory… and he has a plan for every specific situation… I had intentions on anything… Merely picked a dress I saw and loved … God knows my heart and that I didn’t do anything wrong… And he will use even people’s thoughts to bring him glory.”
Good has always defended expressing her sexuality, reports the Christian Post:
- ” […] I’m getting sexy and all that but there is a way to do it, there is a classy way to do everything and there is nothing wrong with being sexy or having sex appeal and I think that I am definitely going to be someone who is boldly going to go out to the masses and be someone who say, ‘Look! Women it’s okay to do this, that and the other,’” Good said while speaking at One Church International in Los Angeles earlier this year. “…I don’t like [how] sometimes people who are religious will try and force everyone into a box and judge them.”
A recent article in TV Series Finale states that, “FOX has tried numerous sc-fi action series in the past and most have been cancelled after one season. Undaunted, the network execs are trying again with Minority Report.”
Set in Washington D.C. 2065, Minority Report follows Lara Vega (Meagan Good), a homicide detective who becomes connected with Dash (Stark Sands). He’s a psychic “precog” who’s haunted by images of future crimes and is on a mission to stop them from happening. The rest of the cast includes Nick Zano, Laura Regan, Wilmer Valderrama, Daniel London, Li Jun Li, Zhane Hall, and Tina Lifford.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival.
