The Spelling Bee of Canada (SBOC) has widened its reach to now include Brant and Wellington counties. The neighbouring cities have joined the city of Cambridge that was recently recognized by the SBOC. “This is an excellent opportunity for the parents and students of Cambridge to get involved in this enriching and fun experience,” said Paulet Biedermann who was recently appointed Chapter President for Cambridge.
The SPOC Championship will hold its 26th Annual competition at a Clemens Mill location on April 6, 2013, with the National championship final to be held in Toronto on May 5, 2013. Biedermann stated that, “In addition to hosting the SBOC championship in our city, we are also supporting the Brantford and Guelph communities as they do not have a chapter in their cities.” She urged the need for increased participation of youths and business owners in the area.
Jeff Lyle, husband and father of two, has always been passionate about giving back to the youths. He says, “I continuously seek to add positive direction and leadership as a role model to youth and young adults within my community.” He volunteers time from his busy schedule to coach basketball, and he is currently the President of the Waterloo Wolverines Basketball Academy. The school supports the development of young athletes.
Jeff proudly chimes, “My sponsorship and support of the Spelling Bee is very important to me as I feel there is a real gap in support and awareness of academic achievements within our community.”
About Spelling Bee of Canada (SBOC)
For the past 25 years Spelling Bee of Canada has provided an opportunity for all young people between the ages of 6 to 14 to participate in an exciting and interesting series of events. The SBOC program provides a variety of opportunities for the entire family to get involved, including volunteering as coaches and officials, thereby encouraging and motivating each participant to try his/her best.
SBOC promotes learning, self-esteem and positive life skills. Participating in SBOC has given rise to improvement in spelling, language arts, study habits, projection, punctuality, word usage, word definition and motivation. Further, SBOC participation enhances learning ability, promotes pride in academic excellence, and builds part of a student’s framework for future life successes. Our belief is Education + Perseverance = Success.
