Though she was born in Jamaica, Jahsmin Daley is not a household name in the home of reggae. This may be because, while she was born in Jamaica, she grew up in Canada. Regardless, this will soon be a relic of the past as Jahsmin is quickly on the rise as a female artiste today. Her unique sound arises from a mixture of genres, as her repertoire spans reggae, dance and R&B.
Young Jahsmin – The Daley Sisters
Many singers grow up singing in church and or with a small group. Jahsmin is no different. She is one of the original ‘Daley Sisters’, a gospel singing group consisting of herself and her three sisters’. Aptly, the group was formed and managed by the girls’ father Amos ‘Pastor Daley’, an organ player. The small group performed at church functions, concerts and fundraisers. Occasionally, audiences would get a full dose of the entire family unit as her two brothers would join in, her youngest playing the drums.
Multi-Talented – Singer, Songwriter, Poetess
Not only is Jahsmin a singer, but she is a songwriter and performing artiste as well. Early in her life, music and poetry became her first love, integral facets in her life. She was first introduced to music through Gospel with exposure to sweet soul, rhythmical and lyrically conscientious. The empowering words came from Artists’ such as Mahalia Jackson, Anita Baker, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Luciano, Tony Rebel, Nadine Sutherland, Lauryn Hill, Eryka Badu and many others.
Her love for poetry was actually discovered while attending high school. She had a certain ease of expression in writing and was enlightened by the power of words and endless possibilities to the expression of feelings, emotions, and experiences.
In 2002 Jahsmin began attending, various open mic venues within Toronto. She was immediately well received, which inspired her to move forward on her journey to share and inspire through music. In 2006 she collaborated with Satnam Chatha, a local Brampton music producer and CEO of 5Rivers Entertainment Inc. This collaboration led her to the completion of her first album; ‘Beauty Never Fades Inside’, which was released in 2009. The Album consists of 11 original songs.
Currently Jahsmin is working with Mountain Edge Music Production in various projects, including the release of two hot new tracks for 2011 ‘Say You’, (Ken Boothe) classic, and ‘To Sir With Love’ (by Lulu) another classic which has been getting great reviews. ‘To Sir With Love’ was Produced by MEMP in Association with Roger B. The song is essentially a reggae version of the original and has made its way to rotation on Toronto’s ‘Newest’ Radio Station G98.7FM. It currently sits on the Rebel Vibez Top 10 Charts and is climbing its way to top 5.
Jahsmin, The Philanthropist
Helping young, upcoming artiste is one of the absent features of successful artiste today. Jahsmin is one who demonstrates the opposite, being involved in the Mountain Edge Music Productions, Brampton Talent Showcase (2011 Season Premiere), a community initiative to provide a platform and opportunity to develop, and foster sustainable growth for upcoming local talent.
Where Is She Now
Recent performances for Jahsmin have included performing at the Brampton Talent Showcase Finals 2011, as a featured artist, Men of Distinction Concert November 2011, CHRY 105.5fm Musicville 2011, and the Irie Music Festival Fundraiser.
Jahsmin’s music appeals to the beauty within oneself, which from birth is home to the truest part of each individual, the essence of this beauty being ‘Love’. Jahsmin shares this love in her songs and invites listeners to do the same. ‘The Journey’ continues forward for Jahsmin Daley.
