NEW UK FILM TO PUT DOMINICA ON THE MAP
“iD – my Dominica Story”
Independent filmmaker ropes in Dominica's biggest celebrities to appear in his new project. With Special appearances by renowned cricketer Shane Shillingford, Dominica's President Charles A. Savarin, Miss Dominica 2013 Leslassa Armour-Shillingford, designer of the national flag Dr. Alwin Bully and celebrated Dominican historian Dr. Lennox Honychurch.
Travel to the beautiful island of Dominica as one man documents his discovery; of identity, of the birthplace of his father and of a legacy for future generations. The film is slated for release in the summer of 2014. It will run for 45 minutes and will be done in English and Creole (with English subtitles).
Writer and Director Richard Etienne says, “Dominica is a country I so badly want to call 'home'. However with a mind filled with unconfirmed truths, myths and warnings bestowed upon me by Dominican-born members of my family, I developed dangerous preconceptions of our islands' history and culture – mournfully deterring me from wanting to visit.”
I was also very close with my father. He was my best friend, my idol and someone who believed in me unconditionally. He sadly passed away in 2004 after a string of lengthened illnesses. This film will document my virgin journey to the Caribbean island of Dominica as I retrace my father’s steps to discover inspiring home truths and the breath-taking beauty of Dominica first hand – Introducing…iD.
Our team aims to have contributions from Dominican sports stars, musicians, historians and politicians. This film will discover the REAL Dominica and the people who create the culture of this beautiful island as I go about putting a small, uncelebrated country, firmly on the map.
Everything I have learnt about film-making over the past 5 years by producing film for companies like MySpace and the UK’s Channel 4 website has brought me to a place where I feel ready to tackle a project on the scale of 'iD' as it takes me halfway across the world (4121.9 miles / 6633.6 km to be exact) to the birthplace of my father and extended family in the hope of making something truly moving for all watching. I welcome you to be a part of something special.
