Having a constant headache? Swallowing aspirin won’t just do since you will fall victim to the underlying symptoms, hypertension being the most troublesome of them all. Read on to know if there’s a possibility that you may have one and make note of the steps to cope with it.
What Is Hypertension?
Also known as high blood pressure, hypertension is a condition where the blood moves through the arteries at high pressure consistently. This poses a danger because every time your heart beats, it pumps the blood to your body through these arteries, and since these arteries are not made to withstand such high pressure for a long time, your heart needs to pump harder in order to keep up.
Over the long run, hypertension can lead to heart failure, heart attack, kidney failure, and stroke; definitely not a good outlook.
Hypertension can be divided into two types: essential or secondary. Essential is the term for high blood pressure in which the causes are unknown while secondary is described as known causes that make you suffer from high blood pressure.
What is the Cause?
Although in most cases, the true cause of hypertension are unknown, and apart from genes there are several culprits such as smoking regularly, being overweight, diabetes, leading a sedentary lifestyle and not being active, taking certain medications such as birth control pills, as well as poor diet high in cholesterol and salt.
What You Should Do?
You need to tell your doctor as soon as possible if you unexpectedly suffer one or two of these symptoms such as pounding headaches, pain in the chest, irregular heart beat (palpitations), and even blood in the urine.
If you do have hypertension, you need to make changes pronto to prevent other worse consequences of hypertension from happening to your body. How? With a healthy lifestyle and healthy diet of course!
A diet high in nutrients and obviously low in fat, cholesterol, and salt is the one you should take every single day to keep your heart stronger.
Ever Heard Of DASH Diet?
Even the name sounds cool. The acronym stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Studies have found that DASH is so effective that you can reduce you high blood pressure in just two weeks. This may sound too good to be true but there’s a concrete reason behind it.
DASH incorporates plenty of fruits and veggies, poultry, whole grains, and fish, avoid all foods that are high in cholesterol and fats at all cost. If this doesn’t sound tempting to you, a DASH diet is also effective for you to lose the excess fat in your body. That means weight loss!
