Harlem’s Historic Apollo welcomes Canadian Neo-Soul singer KIYAN

Neo-Soul artist KIYAN mixes many old and familiar sounds in new ways, to create a sound that while fresh to the ears, feels like home.

kiyan (kee yon)

Upcoming young Neo-Soul artist, KIYAN, was born in Toronto, Canada to a Trinidadian mother and Persian father. From the beginning, he was surrounded by the heady, earthy Caribbean and Carnival beats and the ancient, mystical Persian sounds. Is it any wonder his musical reach is so wide and encompassing?

KIYAN studied voice and piano at college and is currently working on his debut record at studios around the United States. He draws from rooted influences like Badu, D’Angelo, and Beyonce, while flavoring in his classical training and a lifetime of pianism.

KIYAN has performed at the House of Blues in Cleveland, Studio 54 Below in New York and was featured at the wildly successful cabaret Dearly Beloved (a 30th Anniversary Tribute to his Purple Majesty) produced by the talented Jacob Langfelder and held at 42 West, New York. KIYAN will be in Los Angeles this summer for events there.

You can look out for KIYAN’s first released single This Isn’t Nardis on SoundCloud and Spotify.

Another single will be released in late summer and the album drop will arrive near the end of 2015. That album promises to be a breath of fresh air.

Equally as comfortable on the rock & roll stage as the cabaret stage, he will be competing on Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 at 7:30 pm at the Apollo Theatre long running Amateur Night at the Apollo. Tickets for this show are available at TicketMaster.com.
