The strength and courage of women and children will be recognized on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at the 10th Annual Triumph Awards Gala presented by Dr. Roz’s Healing Place at The Centennial College Event Centre, 937 Progress Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario, reception begins at 6:00 pm.
Citytv’s Tammie Sutherland and G98.7/Toronto Raptor’s announcer Mark Strong will host the White-Tie/All-White Gala, which features live entertainment, a silent auction, and raffle.
“Every year we hold a fundraising gala to celebrate the triumphs, and honour the women and youth who have overcome devastating violence,” says Sabeen Makki, VP of the Board of Directors. “On average, one in five women experience violence in their intimate relationships, every six days a woman is killed by her intimate partner in Canada…with more than 360 000 children witnessing or experiencing violence every year.”
The Triumph Awards Gala honours women and youth who have gone through the centre’s programs, benefitted from our services and taken their lives back and achieved success. Four women and two youth will be recognized for their accomplishments. The Jack Layton Award for community service will also be awarded to an outstanding community member.
“Our organization truly makes an effort to think outside of the traditional model of service and aims to create no barrier for any abused woman or child needing our help,” says founder Dr. Roz Roach, “I feel it is our responsibility as leaders and as members of society to care for, support and help our women and children through this difficult time in their lives.” Every year, more than 400 women and children are provided programming, emergency shelter and a means to overcome their hardships. Roach adds:
“A life without violence is the only life to live.”
