My fellow Jamaicans, whenever the news about violence is reported by non-Jamaican news organizations we must not quickly retort ‘what about the crimes in their countries’. I feel ashamed of the violence existing in my homeland.
My response to these factual reports is one of: what can I do to help with the reduction of crime in Jamaica.
Comparing crime in other countries to crimes in Jamaica will not change the facts. We all abhor crime and must think about our responses to the reporting of these crimes by any media outlet.
I have seen the reports of the murders of the 2 missionaries in the Gleaner, The Observer, and non-Jamaican news outlets and I have also seen conversations on Facebook.
The majority of these comments seem to indicate that the reporting by the Jamaican news outlets was appreciated, however; the reporting by the non-Jamaican news outlets was not.
Stop the double standard! Express ways in which you believe that you can help to make Jamaica better.
