One of the oldest educational institutions in the U.S., Morgan State University, was named a National Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Morgan State University was founded in 1867 to provide a college education to Black students. The National Trust for Historic preservation will work with university to protect its cultural legacy and its architecture.
Morgan State University is the largest historically Black university in the state of Maryland. Its Baltimore-area campus includes 20 buildings (many of which were designed by Black architects) eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
