Robert Nesta Marley, affectionately known as Bob Marley, was truly a legend and even to this day is cherished by millions around the world. People from all walks of life pay tribute to him with songs and still find solace in his wise quotes and expressive lyrics.
Bob Marley played a significant role as a Jamaican guitarist, songwriter, singer, and all-round musician in the reggae music industry. He lived a fulfilling life having dedicated eighteen years to the industry, starting out in 1963. Marley’s untimely death caused grief all over the world, he passed at the age of 36. Nevertheless, his legacy will be remembered for years and years to come as it is lived through his children, his supporters, and his music.
Here are a few quotes which Bob Marley left us and they can guide us in our daily lives:
“The greatness of man is not how much wealth he acquires, but in his ability to affect those around him positively.”
Everyone can be rich and ‘everyone can be rich’. The difference is, riches can come in two forms, monetary riches and riches which cannot be bought – character, spirit, and intellect. The latter combination of wealth surpasses all other riches.
Marley stated in his quote that the greatness of a man is the ability to affect those around him. Be it a parent, guardian, mentor, or even a stranger; you are not exempted from effecting change and positivity in another person’s life. We all have our cross to carry, the support and inspiration from others are far greater than any quantity of financial treasure. Marley motivated those around him with his music, which to this day is still celebrated.
Have you ever met someone who never felt inspired by helping others?
“Don’t gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than silver or gold”
This was actually one of Marley’s song lyrics to his hit song Zion Train.
Money isn’t everything and some attribute it to being the root of all evil. Some persons make it their life’s mission to acquire money at any and all costs, which in the end, hurts no one but themselves. Many people will always be greedy for money and material possessions as it is a never ending cycle, but wisdom is the secret to one’s happiness. Don’t sell your soul, your morals, innocence, or your ethics just to make a quick buck.
We all aspire to be wise, not only in knowledge but in understanding and the ability to perceive. Most people in the world agree that It is better to be wise than wealthy, better to be moral and respected than immortal and popular.
Yes we are into the hustle to make more to support our families and be more equipped to get ahead in life; but don’t lose sight of what is important. You only have one soul, one life.
Are you willing to lose yourself for the demands of the world?
“Love the life you live. Live the life you love.”
Don’t’ sweat the little things but ensure that you live the most fulfilling and happy life that is within your capacity. Too many people don’t see themselves enjoying their lives and they end up living miserable lives. Don’t be that person. While making a living from your passion might not be as lucrative as you would hope, it’s better than being in a job or situation that you completely hate; it has more negative effects than positive and at the end of the day very exhaustive.
Remember to appreciate everything that has happened as everything happens for a reason. Never compromise what makes you ‘you’ to fit in with everyone else. Be you and love you.
Find your passion and love the life you live. Every minute you spend worrying or being upset is robbing yourself 60 seconds of happiness.
Are you living the life you believe you love living?
“Beginnings are usually scary, and endings are usually sad, but it’s everything in between that makes it all worth living.”
They say the journey is way better than the end or the outcome. This is true with most things. At times, we all are reluctant to take the bull by the horns and make that first step to start something, but once you decide to go, there is no turning back.
Have you ever made a decision that was overwhelming but once you did you were glad you did?
“Don’t worry about a thing, ‘cause every little thing is gonna be alright.”
We worry too much as individuals. Often times we don’t even have a reason to worry but since we are so wired and used to worrying we worry anyway.
Don’t stress about the little things and don’t worry about the things you cannot change. It’s going to be alright in the end because everything turns out for the better; maybe we cannot see the solution or outcome right now but it will. Even when the end of the road seems blurry and the journey seems never ending, it will work out.
Have you ever worried about something and it ended being okay?
“You never know how strong you are until strong is the only choice you have.”
We all have strength. Some demonstrate their strength by using it daily, whether physically, emotionally, or mentally.
At some point in life you will experience hardship in some form and your strength is drawn upon at that time more than ever. You may think that you cannot do it and the road to recovery is far and hard but you really don’t know how strong you are until that’s the only thing you have to be to get through.
Have you unlocked your strength?
“The truth is everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for.”
Ultimately you will get hurt. Maybe only once in your lifetime by someone, or more times than you can count. It’s inevitable. It doesn’t mean you have to experience hard ‘sufferation’, but it just simply means sacrifice, be it your time or effort or even your love.
Even if you come across the unfortunate circumstance of experiencing the pain of a heartbreak or bonds of friends being severed, you have to decide whether or not they are worth it. Take every step of the process with an open mind. While you are not a ‘pushover’ or gullible to the fact that you were hurt some minutes, weeks, months, or years ago by this person, it is time to move on.
Moving on can be daunting, but is it worth more to grudge than to forgive? Forgiveness does come with time, but a life with a clean heart is far better than harboring negative feelings and emotions. Take the time you need, time heals.
Are the person(s) you choose to be in your life worth suffering for?
